Approval modes compared, from ask-for-everything to auto-run (real run)

The same request is sent under each approval mode so you can see exactly what changes, and what never does: a destructive request still waits for a person, and a never-allowed command is blocked.

Approval modes compared, from ask-for-everything to auto-run (real run). 4:28
Transcript
  1. The same request is sent on a Windows test machine under each approval mode in turn.
  2. Under Ask for everything, every step waits for a technician, including read-only ones.
  3. Under Auto-run safe commands, the approval card lists only the change, and read-only steps run on their own.
  4. Under Auto-run everything, this request's steps run without a card.
  5. Even then, a destructive request still waits for a person and is denied, and the Security page shows a never-allowed command as blocked.
  6. No mode overrides a restart: restarting a machine always asks, at every level.
